Tennessee Titans EDGE Vic Beasley could lead the NFL in sacks again

Going into the 2020 NFL offseason, the Tennessee Titans had questions about how the team would improve their pass rush. The Tennessee Titans were about average when it came to sacks in 2019. According to Pro Football Reference, the Titans were 13th in the NFL with 43 sacks. The team hopes that the signing of Vic Beasley over the offseason will help catapult them into the top 10.

Although the Titans were in the top half of the league in sacks, it was very apparent in the AFC championship game that improving pass rush was a must for the offseason. Harold Landry was Titans biggest sack contributor in 2019 with 9. Landry was the driving force for the Titans pass rush last season, but with lack of depth on the EDGE Landry soon ran out of gas. All of Landry’s 9 sacks came within the first 11 games. After week 12, Landry had no sacks for the remainder of the season.

The Tennessee Titans signed Vic Beasley to a 1 year deal worth $9.5 Million this offseason. In just his second NFL season (2016) Beasley led the league in sacks with 15.5. Since 2016, Beasley has been about average posting 5, 5, and 8 respectively. GM Jon Robinson spoke on Beasley’s play and how the Titans coaching staff can bring him back to the top.

We brought him in because he’s got some ability to rush the passer off the edge, Watch him back through the tape, he’s a guy that plays hard, he’s fast, he’s got good length, he’s got some good snaps on tape.

I think our head coach played 12, 13, 14, 15 years at that position, and he’s got a wealth of knowledge at that position. I just think that he can work with Vic, along with (outside linebackers coach) Shane Bowen and really hopefully take his game to another level.

2020 Expectations

Robinson is hopeful that HC Mike Vrabel can teach Beasley a few things about the position. There is no doubt that Vic Beasley has star potential. Having good coaching and a strong defense around him may be just what he needs. Vic Beasley returning to his 2016 self could give the Tennessee Titans the needed boost to make a Super Bowl run. With Mike Vrabel’s coaching and Beasley’s raw ability he could find himself at the top of the NFL in sacks next season.

Beasley brings more than just his talent to the table. Along with the other players on the EDGE he provides depth that will allow Harold Landry to remain fresh throughout the season. These two factors could lead to the Titans having two players with double digit sacks in 2020. That would make it the first time ever since the organization changed to the Titans.
