Lamar Jackson says the Tennessee Titans caught Ravens by surprise

After the Tennessee Titans defeated the New England Patriots in a wildcard game that went down to the wire, nobody gave them much of a real chance vs the Lamar Jackson led Baltimore Ravens.

Nobody gave the Titans much of a chance going into the game, aside from Nate Burleson. Lamar Jackson finished the regular season on a high note, throwing 8 TDs in the last two games. Jackson finished with at least a 100 passer rating in each of the last 3 games, per Pro Football Reference. It seemed like the Ravens were unstoppable, so they thought anyways.

Many were shocked when the Titans absolutely thrashed the Ravens all game long in the divisional round of the playoffs. Lamar Jackson talked about the crushing defeat on the “Load Management Podcast” earlier this week.

Lamar Jackson on loss to Titans

Jackson stated that he wanted to take things one at a time and not “peek ahead” like they did in the playoffs.

“So I’m looking forward to this 2020 season playing the Browns first. … Don’t underestimate your opponents. They caught us by surprise. That’s all it was.”

It seems like the Tennessee Titans might have actually done Lamar Jackson a favor. Derrick Henry and crew may have just scared him into taking every game seriously and not believing that he is too good to play anyone.

“I had a lot of mistakes on my behalf,” said Jackson, who threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in top-seeded Baltimore’s 28-12 loss. “Three turnovers — that shouldn’t happen. But [Tennessee] came out to play.”

The Tennessee Titans were a joy to watch last season. Game after game they did things and beat teams that they weren’t supposed to. The 2019 Tennessee Titans will be remembered by fans for years to come because of the way they continued to do things no one (besides Titans fans) thought they could.

On paper, the Baltimore Ravens should have one that game 99 out of 100 times. Last years divisional round is proof that in the NFL you can’t take any opponent for granted.
