Free agent WRs for the Titans after Antonio Brown’s retirement.

Antonio Brown officially announced his retirement for the third time ever on Monday, July 21st. His announcement came in the form of several consecutive tweets after stating he “done everything in the game.” Has Antonio Brown really hung up the cleats? Who knows, but life goes on in the NFL. The Titans could benefit from signing a receiver out of free agency. Derrick Henry helped the team to clear up cap space with his new contract. So, what free agent wide receivers are best fits for the Titans after Antonio Brown’s retirement?

After being seen working out with Russell Wilson, many though that AB had a great chance of getting back into the league.

Wilson supposedly wanted Antonio Brown to join the Seattle Seahawks, but now it doesn’t look like he will be joining any team for the 2020 NFL season. His decision to retire narrows the selection of wide receivers for the Titans in free agency. There are still two players unsigned that would be great fits, though.

Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon is an incredible talent, but his time in the NFL has been overshadowed by suspensions and policy violations. The new CBA that went into effect earlier this offseason lessens some of the punishments for what Gordon has been suspended for in his career. Since then, Gordon has applied for reinstatement and he will likely be approved.

With all of the commotion he has caused on other teams in the past, it seems like a long shot that Jon Robinson would bring Gordon into a fairly quiet Titans locker room. After the new rule changes, though, there might not be any added drama from having Gordon on the team. He was clean until November of last year when his brother passed away. So, he could easily be trying to find a team to play for to redeem himself.

Adding a weapon like Josh Gordon across from AJ Brown would give the Titans offense an incredible boost. Between Brown, Gordon, and Jonnu Smith every time one of the Titans top targets caught the ball there would be a chance it was going to the house.

As far as free agent wide receivers, Josh Gordon should be the first one the Titans pick up the phone for.

Taylor Gabriel

I’ve said it all offseason, and I will continue to say it. Give me Taylor Gabriel. He has plenty of experience in the NFL, and he could bring that experience to a fairly young Titans offense.

Gabriel was a part of the Atlanta Falcons team in 2017 that blew a 27-3 lead against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Granted, that part isn’t so impressive, but being a part of the playoff run was great experience.

On top of that, Taylor Gabriel is an insanely good route runner. His skills don’t stop there, though. He is a dangerous deep threat and can be a YAC monster.  Signing him to add to the YAC attack that the Titans already have going could make for plenty of highlight plays and leave several defenses scratching their heads.

Gabriel’s best season to date was with Atlanta when he finished with 35 receptions for 579 yards and 6 touchdowns. By no means is he going to break any receiving records, but that isn’t what the Titans need. They need good, reliable veteran Taylor Gabriel to play valuable snaps and provide depth.
